MXenergy

Home Heating Tips

Hello. I’m Jeff Mayer, president and CEO of MXenergy, one of the fastest growing providers of natural gas and electricity in the country. Here’s a simple fact about energy conservation: We are still building homes like we did in the 18th and 19th centuries: Stick style, frame architecture, with woefully inadequate insulation.

Inefficient boilers and furnaces and appliances are consuming energy and most of it is literally slipping through the cracks, the light fixtures, the walls, the doors, the windows, the ceilings, and the attic.

At MXenergy, we believe that a modest investment in decent insulation can pay back in months just from the savings in energy cost by as much as 30% -- 30%!So we suggest you get an inexpensive home energy audit. Go to MXenergy.com to find a home auditor in your area.

Restore your beautiful self

When the heat is on in the house and the air is cold outside, your skin will be depleted of its natural moisture, leaving your skin feeling tight and dry. People tend to load on the extra moisturizer to compensate for the dryness. This will not always solve the problem of dry skin. If you’re dry, tight and flakey, it means that you have dry skin cell build-up on...read more

Backpacks
Did you know that the backpacks your kids wear to school may cause problems to their spine and shoulders? Before you let them simply grab what they like, make sure their backpack fits them properly. They should be made out of lightweight material, have wide, padded adjustable shoulder straps and individualized compartments for even distribution of materials. It should have a hip strap, waist belt or frame to redistribute its weight from the shoulders to the pelvis. Remember! Size it right - Pack it Right – Wear it Right! Norwalk Hospital wants your kids to be healthy!
Sports Injuries
Every day parents will drop their kids off at practices that have no qualified person to treat injuries. This is true with recreation leagues and schools. Be aware and educate your child. Most injuries happen at practice. Make sure your child knows that if they are hurt, ‘playing through the pain" can cause a minor injury to become serious. Tell the coach. Insufficient rest after even a minor injury like a sprain can do more damage. Lack of conditioning prior to the start of the season will also contribute to more injuries. Work your kids up to it. Be ready and be safe!
Travel Snacks
To boost health- stock up on nutrient-rich travel snacks that easily fit into plastic bags for summer outings and outdoor living. Try these. Fruit and veggie chunks, Trail mix of dry cereal , nuts, dried fruit, whole-wheat cracker sandwiches with peanut butter, energy bar cut into bite-sized pieces, cold veggie pizza; salsa and baked chips; mini oatmeal muffins with raisins; and string cheese to name a few. Norwalk Hospital wants you to have fun and be healthy!
